Wedding Events

We will be having an Indian wedding in Kailua-Kona. We chose Hawaii because Tara’s aunt Indu and uncle Rajan have a home there. We spent a week with Tara’s mom’s family, particularly her late grandfather, at the home in 2013 and wanted to get married at this very meaningful place.

In Kona, people tend to stop to watch the sunsets, eat a lot of food, and party. We plan to do all of that during our wedding week, and hope you will join us for some great events …

Friday, January 15: A day of parties!

12:30pm - 2pm: Traditional South Indian brunch and shower - and a roast of Tara and Pete - at Indu’s house. This is supposed to be casual and fun, so let us know if you’ll be sharing a story or song!

Location: Home of Indira and S.R. Rajan
77-407 Ho’omalu Hia Place
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740

5:30pm: Welcome reception at Pa’akai Point, followed by Sangeet at the Kaleiopapa Convention Center, at the Sheraton Kona hotel. Join us for the reception to take pictures with the couple, have mehndi done, and see the sun set off the Kona coast. We will then proceed to the convention center for a Sangeet, hosted by Tara’s cousins Laya and Kriti, followed by dinner and dancing.

Saturday, January 16: Our wedding day!

There are several events on this day to which you are invited.

10:30am: Marriage ceremony at the Bayview Grounds at the Sheraton Kona. All of Tara’s and Pete’s close family members have traditional roles throughout the hour. The ceremony will be performed by a Hindu priest and translated by Tara’s aunt, Meena. It will be live-streamed for those who can’t make it!

11:30am: Swing ceremony. This final tradition asks our elders to bless us and usher in a beautiful life. Please come with a few words of wisdom for us, regardless of your age.

12:00pm: Indian lunch, toasts, and cake!

…ending with the Kona crawl.

Rather than host a second reception event, we wanted to spend time with our friends and family in a casual setting. We will be taking a hotel trolley downtown to a couple of Kona restaurants to hang out, and then will head back to the hotel for an 8:30 manta ray show. Please join us at any point along the way!
